Washington, 7 September (IranVNC)—Acting on a tip from local Iraqis, coalition forces in Iraq’s central Babil Province yesterday discovered a large cache of more than 2,500 components, including 414 blocks of Iranian M112 C-4 demolition charges.
According to a Multi-National Forces press release, the US forces were informed of the suspected cache locations through a notebook with sketches of the munitions and its general location by Iraqi citizens. The soldiers found three separate locations where the cache was located, the report said.
“The Iraqi citizens made a significant decision to support their government and security forces when they provided the information that led to the discovery of this cache,” US Lt. Col. John Casper said.
The Diwaniyah Peninsula and the Samrah Jungle are known weapons trafficking locations in the province, the report said.
Other finds among the cache were copper plates, back plates, retaining rings and steel bodies, all used to make explosively formed penetrators [EFPs], a type of charge designed to penetrate armor.
The U.S. military has in the past said that improvised explosive device [IED] components manufactured in Iran have been used to kill US soldiers in Iraq.
The Pentagon has also accused Iran of stirring up violence in Iraq by supplying arms, funding and training to Shiite militants in that country.
Iran has in the past denied these accusations, saying that its role in Iraq is constructive and blaming the U.S. for fueling tensions in the region.
